Some Late Winter Weather

We managed to get out around the local Ochil Hills after some late winter snow.  We also explored some nice low-level walks in some Woodland Trust forests .  They were beautiful – a real Winter Wonderland with good paths and easy access from their car park.

Lovely Autumn walks

We’ve been out and about recently, tramping through forests as the leaves turn and Autumn gives way more and more to Winter.

Not just from the door of the cottage but there are beautiful Autumn walks to be found at the Hermitage, near Dunkeld, Kinnoul Hill and along by the Ochils.

The Woodland Trust have several locations also, so check out their website for suggestions.

And there are a couple of Thermos flasks left in the cottage if you fancy bringing some warm soup or a hot drink with you!

First guests post-Lockdown

On April 26th Scotland went into Level 3 of Covid restrictions.   We have been lucky to receive some bookings and see the diary start to fill up again.

We welcomed our first guests this weekend and it was a nice feeling to have the cottage ready, make the rooms cosy, plant flowers for the summer and have some life in it again.   Fingers crossed that we can all start to look forward now.

New beginnings

Yesterday was a beautiful early Spring day. Clear blue skies and bright sunshine all day.

The risk of Frost has not passed yet so we still need to manage the flower seedlings for outside the cottage.

It is nice to be able to wander a little bit further afield now that some restrictions have been eased. From next week, we can accept guests again too. It will be nice to open the doors and welcome people again.

Here’s to new growth and green shoots!

Keeping Busy

Here’s our kitchen all set for our next guests who arrive this afternoon. We’ve been busy since Lockdown lifted mid-July for Scotland.

After a few shorter 3 to 4 night stays were booked in quick succession, we received a few week long breaks, which takes off the pressure of turning the cottage frequently, but also means that we have a very tight window in which to prepare for the new guests, usually in the morning with them arriving late afternoon.

Where we can, we let guests depart late but same day changeovers require sharp departures. We are lucky in that our guests were leaving early anyway and, with Covid cleaning protocol to be followed, they understand. They appreciate that we did exactly the same for them just prior to their arrival.

As regards Covid cleaning, our protocol is pretty much the same, we’ve just had to change the chemicals used. Also, we tend to clean, sanitise and change a room and once complete, we don’t go back in. Also more mindful of common touch areas such as cupboard handles and switches etc.

It’s not that much more of a burden and the methodical approach helps get through it a little bit quicker if we’re honest.
